About the New Store
As part of our healthier food initiative, we committed to expanding access to fresh groceries by opening stores in parts of the country where customers are underserved.
Downtown Los Angeles is a place where we think Walmart can be part of the solution for residents in downtown, Chinatown, Bunker Hill, Echo Park and Lincoln Heights, who want more affordable food choices close to home. As a result, we plan to open Walmart Neighborhood Market 701 W. Cesar E Chavez Avenue. Stay tuned for grand opening details, including community celebration events.
This new store also will create additional economic activity for this part of downtown Los Angeles. From temporary jobs for construction to long-term jobs and career opportunities for associates, it will help put residents back to work; and create new sustainable economic activity and foot traffic to the surrounding retailers. There are currently about 65 newly-hired Walmart associates training and setting-up for the Downtown LA Neighborhood Market.
The 34,000 square foot store will offer a quick and convenient shopping experience for customers who need a broad assortment of fresh produce, meats and dairy products, frozen foods, dry goods, pharmacy and consumables…all at our famous Every Day Low Prices.
Thank you to our community partners including organizations such as the Tenant Association of Grand Plaza, the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce, the Central City Association, the Latino Business Chamber, the Chinese Chamber of Commerce, the Asian Business Association, the Chinatown Business Improvement District and others.
We have recently opened new Neighborhood Markets in Panorama City, Downey, Bell Gardens, Altadena and Hawthorne. In each case, Walmart is having a positive impact in the community and we expect the same result in Downtown LA.
We look forward to providing you with fresh, affordable groceries at our new Neighborhood Market soon.
